The Mission of the Half Moon Bay Coastside
Chamber of Commerce and Visitors’ Bureau Education Committee
is to enhance the quality of education that students receive
at Coastside schools and to foster strong, mutually
beneficial relationships between educational and business
communities.
In addition to awarding five college scholarships & the
Frymoyer Foundation Scholarship Awards annually, this committee works with businesses in helping with the Half Moon Bay High School Wish List, Back to Basics, Career Day, the Rotary's "My Own Business", and BizWorld (a three day workshop that sets fifth grade classes up in a mock business).
The committee also oversees the Frymoyer Foundation
Scholarship Award for students not planning to attend a four
year college
Meets: First Tuesday of the month, 4:00pm, Chamber Office

Scholarship Descriptions:
Standard Scholarships: Give two $500 scholarships to graduating
seniors, (one to Half Moon Bay High School and one to Pescadero High School)
awardee decided by the school committees.
Merit Scholarships: Give two scholarships (amount to be determined annually) to graduating seniors
from Half Moon Bay High School and/or Pescadero High School by application.
Awardee decided by Chamber Education Committee. Half Moon Bay High School
and Pescadero High School to submit no more than 15 applications based on the
following guidelines:
1) Scholastic Achievement
2) Financial Need
3) GPA Improvement Over Last Three Years
Returning Education Scholarship: Give one scholarship (amount
to be determined and reviewed annually) to an individual seeking or going back
to school. Awardee decided by the Chamber Education Committee based on the
following guidelines:
1) Individual that is employed, self employed, or in career transition.
2) Individual planning to enroll or is currently enrolled in an accredited
institution of higher learning.
3) Must show financial need.
4) Must present job resume, transcript, or current enrollment.
5) Must submit a paragraph explaining future goals and plans and why the
individual deserves the scholarship.
6) Must be a Coastside resident.
ALL recipients must claim their scholarship by October 1st of the following
calendar year, or moneys will roll over to the following year's scholarship
account. Extensions can be granted on a case by case basis by the Board of
Directors'. If recipient does not plan to matriculate during the next
school year, he must notify the Chamber by the end of the calendar year in which
the scholarship was received.
1) Recipient must present the Chamber with proof of enrollment in an
accredited college or university.
Check will be mailed within 30 days of request.
The Chamber Board of Directors' will determine the amount of the scholarships to
be given each year at the annual budget meeting.
Frymoyer Scholarship: Give total of three scholarships over a
two year period, each spanning two years, $2,000 per year (example: two
scholarship recipients chosen in 2002, 1 chosen in 2003 assuming the first two
are still active). Scholarship to be awarded to a Half Moon Bay High
School or Pescadero High School graduate of the last few years seeking a two
year education at a Junior College or vocational school in San Mateo County or
immediate vicinity. Awardee decided by the Chamber Education Committee
based on the following application information:
1) High School graduation history.
2) Two year college or vocational enrollment.
3) Must show financial need.
4) Individual's future plans and goals.
5) Why the individual believes they deserve this scholarship.
The Frymoyer Scholarships are awarded in February of each year.
Recipient must supply matriculation papers and/or current report card.
