The Half Moon Bay Coastside Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Bureau is a partnership of business professionals working together to strengthen a sustainable socio-economic climate in our unique Coastside community. Community and Government Relations Within San Mateo County

Mission: To maintain a high profile and participate with other community leaders, service organizations, the city, and the county to create a spirit of cooperation for the resolution of future community and county challenges, thereby having our voice heard in the county and state arena.

Goals:
To continue the working relationship with the county and to nurture their involvement of the Chamber on decisions concerning the Coast.

To continue the working relationship with the City and nurture their involvement of the Chamber on decisions concerning Half Moon Bay.

To foster a stronger relationship with the South Coast.

Assist City in Revising General Plan and LCP Updates

Goals:
Encourage commercial opportunities on the Coast.

Support infrastructure improvements and not the mind set of controlling growth through infrastructure.
  A. Roads - Support improved accessibility to the Coast.
  B. Reserving priority water for priority commercial use.

The Chamber supports Measure D and controlling growth through a sound land use plan consistent with Measure D.

Preserve the character of Main Street and surrounding area.

Work with the City to create attractive Gateways and a Scenic Corridors initiative.
  A. Install attractive and welcoming markers at each of the three entrances to the city.
  B. Designate Highway 1 and Highway 92 (with emphasis between Grand Avenue and Wavecrest Road) within the city limits and the entire length of Main Street as scenic corridors that will be held to the highest aesthetic standards including:
     1. Create and/or enforce regulations for commercial signage
     2. Create and/or enforce regulations for landscape design and maintenance
     3. Create and/or enforce regulations for building upkeep
     4. Create and/or enforce eyesore provisions
     5. Clean and maintain streets, medians, shoulders, curbs, gutters, and sidewalks
     6. Create and maintain attractive medians along Highway 1
     7. Encourage enforcement of the City Code Enforcement
     8. Designate the 300, 400, 500, and 600 blocks of Main Street as retail on ground floor with grandfathered clause for current businesses.

Facilitate Increase in Coastside Office and Commercial Space and Retailers

Mission: To help with the revision of the General Plan and "Downtown Redevelopment" to encourage the addition of new commercial apace to Half Moon Bay and the Coastside, thereby attracting commercial business and allowing local residents to work locally and reduce commute traffic.

Goals:
Attend Planning Meetings to voice and support need for increased office space and affordable housing.

Attract unique and one of a kind retailers.

Mitigate office/retail relationships/rentals.

Assist city in improving infrastructure.

Continue Proactive Legislative/Governmental Affairs Committee

Mission: To study and analyze issues of interest tot he Coastside and its business community, recommend to the Board of Directors advocacy positions on those issues that the committee deems appropriate, and communicate the Chamber's viewpoint clearly and strongly to our membership, elected officials, and the community at large.  On issues which the Chamber does not align itself with a particular point of view, the Legislative Committee will seek to present fair representation of both sides of the issue to the membership, elected officials and community at large.

Goals:
Assume a leadership role in representing the business community on local, regional, state, and federal issues.

Contact legislators with letters, faxes, or phone calls regarding the Chamber's position on issues affecting Coastside business and Coastside projects.

Maintain a presence with the city and county legislatures.

Marketing the Coastside

Mission: To maximize awareness and visitation of the Coastside.  And, to promote an aesthetic attractiveness throughout the Coast.

Goals:
Establish Coastside branding.

Continue to assist, grow, and manage the Half Moon Bay Hotel Business Improvement District (BID).

Maintain and enhance website, visitor's guide, ecotourism guide, and any future marketing tools.

Build and moderate marketing database.

Organize and spearhead cooperative advertising in outside publications.

Maintain and expand relationships with regional and state visitor serving organizations.

Increase visitation to the Coast.

Grow and Promote Eco-Tourism

Goals:
Continue to market ecotourism.

Continue to raise awareness and enlist other areas to join the Coastside with an ecotourism program and join marketing effort.

Continue to enlist new Chamber members and continue to encourage the participants to network and refer to each other.

Market ecotourism to senior travel planners.

Budget, or secure funding for map style stand alone brochure.

Budget for website search engine positioning for ecotourism.

Promote "Enjoy our Coastside Responsibly".

Encourage city, county, state (parks), and Harbor district to actively manage refuse through education, signage, enforcement, and adequate refuse receptacles.

Encourage green businesses.

Consider and eco or green event on the Coastside.

Education

Mission: To teach today's youth about different business and professional vocations in order to help them make an educated career choice for their future; and become an integral part of building a healthy economy for the Coastsider's future.

To oversee contributions and distribution of Chamber and Frymoyer scholarship funds.

Chamber will promote and assist with local programs assisting our schools (Back to Basics, Half Moon Bay High School Wish List)

Support increased funding to the Coastside schools whether through legislation or bonds.
