Standards for
Coastside Cultural and Ecotourism
Participants in the Half Moon Bay Coastside Chamber of
Commerce and Visitors’ Bureau eco-cultural tourism program agree to
uphold the following standards:

Conform to environmental regulations and preserve the natural
resources of the Coastside:
o
Properly manage and recycle garbage and wastes, and keep natural areas
litter-free.
o
Do not pollute or disturb natural habitat areas including water bodies.
o
Control visitors’ behavior in and around sensitive wildlife habitat
areas.
o
Use native species to promote wildlife use.
o
Use sustainable practices when harvesting natural products.
o
Minimize impacts on the environment.

Protect the rich and unique cultural heritage of the Coastside:
o
Conform to local architectural style and scale.
o
Contribute to a sense of place and historic authenticity.
o
Provide opportunities to learn about the Coastside’s historic and
current cultural characteristics.

Promote opportunities to learn by doing through ‘hands-on’
experiences and active participation.
o
Offer visitors the opportunity to participate in onsite activities such
as harvesting or processing farm products, monitoring wildlife,
restoring natural areas, etc.
o
Provide a safe environment for visitors
o
Enhance visitors’ learning with interpretive materials.

Promote local economic opportunities through
Ecotourism:
o
Engage Coastside residents
o
Promote Coastside ecotourism activities
o
Buy local products and support local businesses
o
Provide a quality experience
o
Help visitors learn how they can contribute to restoration and
conservation of the Coastside’s natural and cultural resources.
